Hundreds await flood compensation

The Ministry of Finance has announced that 163,000 Saudis from different parts of the Kingdom have been affected by floods this year.
The ministry said in a statement that it is working to compensate flood victims in nine regions and 10 provinces of the Kingdom.
According to sources, people who own properties, including vehicles, houses, livestock and farms damaged by the floods, will be given priority by the committee assigned by the ministry to assess flood damage.
Asir's Civil Defense said that around 30,000 people were affected there and that many citizens are awaiting damage compensation.
Flash floods claimed lives of a number of Saudis this year, especially in the southern and western parts of the Kingdom.
Earlier this year, the rains, the heaviest in Saudi Arabia in more than 25 years, claimed the lives of 13 Saudis and damaged a huge number of properties.
The 2009 floods in Jeddah that killed 123 people propelled the Kingdom to come up with contingency plans to combat flash floods.
